Gone
Time for a proper update. Last proper update is from Xmas. As some of you might know the flu managed to make a comeback just in time for new year’s so I spent my new year’s eve in bed watching Back To The Future. On the 2nd of January I went to the Imperial Palace in Tokyo to see the imperial family. As the Imperial Palace is open to the public only twice a year you can imagine the crowds that were there. After a few security checks managed to get in to the Imperial Palace with Emily. Katri stayed with her sister, who wasn’t feeling that well. Kinda bummer but couldn’t be helped. After that I met up with Jeongmi at Tokyo station. As she couldn’t join in on the first tour of the palace we decided to go again. To be honest, I didn’t find the whole Imperial Palace that impressing. Could have been because of the crowds…
Next week started classes again. Had a final in kanji. Didn’t do as well as I hoped. Next week had the finals for enshyu and found out that our dear teacher Inaba’s contract with Kanda is coming to a close and next semester she’s going to teach at another uni :/ Unfortunate for the students who get in to enshyu 2 next semester as she is a really good teacher and the classes are quite fun. The final for enshyu went quite well. After that I started to write the sociology and popular culture papers that were due on the 19th. Wrote something like 17pages for those two… Emily returned to Canada on the 16th if I’m not mistaken. a bit of a downer a she was one of the best friends that I’ve made since coming here. On Friday the 22nd we had a sayonara party for the bekka students. Got an certificate for attending every single class this semester. After the party we went for an all you can eat and drink place with the teachers. Had fun.
Went to Frankie’s bday party a few days before mine. Had proper pizza for the first time since Finland. Gotta say that it was freaking awesome. Will most definitely get some during the holiday. on the 22th went to see Scuba at the Unit. He played a great gig. On the 24th went to Kappa Sushi, a sushi restaurant, and ate the first sushis of the trip. They had the conveyor belt running and you could order special sushi that a small shinkansen(bullet train) then would bring up to you. Cheap, fun and good. Also ate some Crispy Cream donuts. Were quite delicious.
Went to Hanzômon on the 26th to get some textbooks so that I can study during the holidays. Han, my Korean roommate, left on that day. He left while I was out so I didn’t get to say goodbye. This morning said goodbye to Kasper(other roommate), Jihye and euyeong (Jeongmi’s roommates). Kinda sad but just gotta face it that people are starting to go back home :/ The next on the leave is Jackie. She’s back to Taiwan on the 29th(?). Going to see Earth Crisis and quite a few other legendary bands play on the 30th to Kawasaki which is apparently closer to Yokohama than to Tokyo. We’ll see maybe I’ll go and check Yokohama out.
Got a long holiday now. To do list for the holiday includes a trip to Hokkaido but unfortunately haven’t managed to get tickets yet but going to do this with in a week or so. Mom & Pa are also coming to Japan in March. Will be fun to get to see them in person for the first time since September. But before that I gotta make some plans for what we should do during their stay. Also, definitely gotta study for the placement test at the start of next semester.

Liian kauan viime päivityksestä. Joulun jälkeen onnistuin saamaan taas flunssan, joten UV meni omassa sängyssä Paluu tulevaisuuteen -trilogian parissa. 2.päivä mentiin Emilyn, Katrin ja katrin siskon kanssa katsastamaan keisarin palatsin menoja, kerta kyseinen paikka on auki vain kahdesti vuodessa. Ei niin suureksi yllätykseksi paikalla oli varmaan puoli Tokiota. Kiitos nopeiden turvatarkastusten ja Japanilaisen tehokkuuden hommat sujuivat yllättävän nopeasti ja sujuvasti. Katrin sisko oli vähän kipeä, joten menin itse palatsiin sisälle Emilyn kanssa. Yllättävän lattea paikka. Päästyäni pois palatsista tapasin Jeongmin. Hän ei ollut ennen käynyt palatsissa, joten eikun uusinta kierrokselle. Illalla tuli käytyä kiertelemässä vähän Shinjukussa. Oli hauskaa.
Seuraavalla viikolla olikin sitten ensimmäisten tenttien aika. Kanjit meni vähän pyödän alle kiitos kirjoitusvirheiden. Itse kanjeista tiesin kaikki paitsi kaksi. Eipä voi mitään enää. Seuraavaksi olikin ensyun tentin aika. Meni yllättävän hyvin. Muistaakseni 80/100. Samalla myös selvisi, että Inaba-sensei on siirtymässä toiseen yliopistoon, kerta hänen sopimuksensa Kandan kanssa on päättymässä :/ Valitettavaa niille, jotka eivät nyt pääse nauttimaan sensein hyvistä jutuista ja hauskoista luennoista. Sitten olikin aika kirjoitella vähän esseitä sosiologiaan ja populaarikulttuuriin. onnistuin kirjoittamaan yhteensä jonkun 17 sivua, joka on melkoinen saavutus. Emily palasi takaisin Kanadaan 16. päivä. Perjantaina 22.1. oli Bekka -ohjelman jäähyväisjyhlat. Sain todistuksen kaikille luennoille osallistumisesta. Kekkereiden jälkeen suunnattiin buffettiin opettajien kanssa. Oli oikein hauskaa.
Pari päivää sayonara-kekkereiden jälkeen kävin Frankien synttäreillä. Ali ja Frankie olivat tilanneet pizzaa Dominosista ja nyt täytyy sanoa, että maistui erittäin hyvälle. Ensimmäinen oikea pizza sitten Suomesta lähtemisen. Suunitelmissa onkin tilata joko Dominosista tai Pizza Hutista räiskäle tässä loman aikana. Omat synttärit meni hyvin. Ensin kävin syömässä sushia Jeongmin kanssa Kappa Sushi nimisessä ravintolassa. Eri sushilajeja oli paljon ja yllättävän hyviäkin. Jos halusi jotain tiettyä sushilajia, niin niitä pystyi erikseen tilaamaan, jonka jälkeen sitten pieni luotijuna toi tilatut sushit pyötään. Hauskaa ja halpaa.
26. päivä maanantaina kävin hakemassa muutaman oppikirjan, että voin opiskella loman aikana. Valitettavasti toinen kämppiksistä, Han, oli poistunut samana päivänä takaisin Koreaan. Toinen kämppis, Kasper, suuntasi takaisin Tanskaan tänään kuten myös Jihye ja euyeong, jotka palasivat takaisin Korean. Seuraavaksi taitaakin olla Jackien vuoro palata takaisin Taiwaniin. Hieman surullista, mutta hauskuuden on pakko loppua joskus. Lauantaina suunnittelen meneväni kattomaan paria bändiä Kawasakiin, joka on noin 1,5h junailumatkan päässä täältä Chibasta.
Lomalla ajattelin käydä katsastamassa vähän lunta Hokkaidossa, mutta en ole vielä onnistunut varaamaan lippuja. Tarkoitus olisi saada se tehtyä tässä viikon sisään. Porukat ovat myös tulossa tännepäin maaliskuussa, joten pitää myös vähän miettiä mitä kaikkea sitä oikein voitaisiinkaan tehdä yhdessä. Pitää myös kohta taas aloittaa opiskelut, että ei tule vedettyä noita ensi lukukauden tasokokeita aivan penkin alle.

Time for some indie. First up Efterkang from Denmark. Saw them play in Helsinki in the winter of ’08(?). Killed Tavastia. Probably the best band that has ever come out of Danmark.
2nd one is from Sweden. A fine young lady called Anna Ternheim. I can still remember the first time I heard her sing. According to Last.fm she is my favorite artist and can’t say that I disagree with that as she definitely is my favorite singer-songwriter. I usually listen to her when I get home from gigs. There is just something in her voice that does miracles…
